What's New With Dr. B

I took a small break from the heat with a trip to Michigan, where I spent some time with extended family. We drove from Tampa up to Sawyer, MI, where we went to the sand dunes and Lake Michigan. From there, we headed back to my hometown outside of Detroit, MI, to get our kids ready for their month-long adventure at an overnight camp. On the drive back home to Tampa, Michelle and I stopped in Blue Ridge, GA, for some mountain living and forest hikes. It was a really nice break, but I'm happy to be home and back in the office. I really appreciate everyone's patience until I was able to get back. If I haven't seen you yet, I look forward to seeing you soon!

I also recently joined the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Clinical Professor of Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. This won't pull me away from the clinic, as it involves teaching 3rd- and 4th-year medical students in our office (I always perform any treatments, and patients always have the option to decline a student if they don't want a student in the room). While teaching is rewarding and keeps me up to date with current information, I also do it because it allows even more people to access physicians who use Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments in their practice.

Exercise Spotlight: Bridging

The bridge exercise is a fundamental movement for strengthening your posterior chain. It specifically targets the gluteal muscles and hamstrings while engaging your core to provide stability for the lower back and pelvis.

Demonstration of a glute bridge exercise on a mat.

Starting Position: Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor about hip-width apart, and arms resting at your sides. Lift the Hips: Press firmly through your heels and squeeze your glutes to lift your hips toward the ceiling. Hold at the Top: Lift until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees. Hold this position for a few seconds while continuing to activate your glutes. Return to Start: Slowly lower your hips back down to the floor under control to return to the starting position.

*As always, please check with Dr. Bruner or another medical provider prior to starting any new exercise.
